You can ONLY save money when it becomes an emotional priority.
We all know we have to save, but most people knowing that they have to save but still don't save. Why? Because they have competing objectives. The goal of saving is not a high enough priority to not purchase the delicious pizza, DVD player, new equipment, or European products. So we end up buying and buying use all of our savings, or worse, lets borrow to buy these things. We end up in dept and that dept turns into monthly debt payments that control our paychecks and make us say things like, "OMG I just do not have enough to save money." Let me tell you the harsh truth, this is very very wrong. We are conscious enough to buy what we think we need but are not conscious enough to put the effort into saving. No matter what you do, you can save money. Once you become committed to the goal of saving. Just make saving as a top priority on your goal list.
If a doctor told you that your child was dying and could only be saved with a $ 15,000 operation that your insurance does not cover and could only be done nine months from now, could you save $ 15,000? Yes! Of course you can! You could sell things, you would stop any spending that is not required to survive, and that would take two additional jobs. For that short nine months, which it would become a crazy summer. You could give up almost anything to achieve that goal $ 15,000. See, now your saving became a priority. Yes. You can do it.
The secret to saving money is to make it a priority, and that is done only when you get some healthy anger or fear and then focus that emotion on your personal decisions. Taking advantage of that emotion will make you move yourself to the top of the list of creditors. Then ask yourself what bill is the most important to pay? After tithing, who should I pay first this month? The answer is you! Until you pay God first, then yourself, then everyone and everything, never save money.
The advertisers and marketing community are affecting our emotions every day and taking every dollar we have to make us see our needs and the needs. It is time for this to stop! Emotions make great slaves, but are lousy teachers. No matter how educated or sophisticated we are, if we are not saving as much as we should be, we are being ruled by emotions, not harnessing them as financial planning slaves.
So if you are saving for college tuition, a trip to the family reunion, new school clothes for little Bobby or Sally, or anything else, start saving now! It's never too late!
